Can you tell us about the People's Center Rachel Braddock ?The People Center started in 1978 to fight against the unemployment in Liverpool and in Merseyside. The People Center helps also the unemployed and advises them on their rights and their benefits.
It was formed by Trade-Unions to lobby government. The unemployment is now 4,5 % in the UK and higter in Liverpool. We help people who are working but still live in poverty.
We inform them that they can claim benefits and we help them to get qualifications, to get a letter job.
What is your role in the people center ?
My role is to provide training and education for people who are unemployed or are in lawpaid, low skilled employement with bad employers.
I started work in the People's Center 9 years ago.
There are people in People's Center who need to work in a night club during the week-end to have enough money to live.
